Sri Lanka Government had allocated over Rs. 9 Bn to address the Police Service Salary Anomaly for 2016 & 2017
Press Briefing concluded by the the Cabinet of Sri Lanka’s Government; where a decision was taken on 25th April 2017 that highlighted in accordance with the budget proposals of 2016, it has been identified that it is appropriate to pay a special allowance of 40% for Police Officers under 2 Phases, with a view to addressing the salary anomaly of the Sri Lanka Police Service.
Accordingly, a provision of Rs. 3000 million (Rs. 3 billion) and Rs. 6000 million (Rs. 6 billion) have been allocated, for the years 2016 and 2017, respectively. Further it noted that the proposal made by Sagala Ratnayake, the Minister of Law & Order and Southern Development, to obtain the additional provision of Rs.1,042 million (Rs. 1.04 billion) required, to grant the proposed 40% payment, was approved by the Cabinet.
The Proposal is further ‘Subject to Confirmation’ at the next Cabinet Meeting.
