As of 3rd April 2017, FactCheck Sri Lanka verified a Press Briefing concluded by the the Cabinet of Sri Lanka’s Government; where a decision was taken on 21st March 2017 that highlighted; as Regulations made under the Companies Act, No. 07 of 2007 a proposal was made by Hon. Rishad Bathiudeen, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, pertaining to the “Company Secretaries” under section 527 of the Companies Act, No.07 of 2007, granting permission for the members of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka also to be registered as Company Secretaries. It has been published in the Gazette Extraordinary No.1998/11 of 2016-12-20, in Parliament, and was approved by the Cabinet of Sri Lanka.
